The annual Texas A&M Aggieland Tournament was held this weekend, February 9 and 10th in College Station. Close to 50 teams from the region competed in this annual prestigious tournament. This year's Division I winner was McNeil High School Coached by Michael Cohen. They defeated Bowie High School (10-4) and then Westwood (OT) (6-5) in order to earn the right to play in the championship against last year's Division II state champions Cy-Fair, out of Houston Texas.
The McNeil and Cy-Fair championship game was a tight one. The score at half time was 4-3 Cy-Fair, and 6-6 at the conclusion of regulation play. OT was a short but exciting period with McNeil winning the face-off but turning the ball over to Cy-Fair. The McNeil defense stopped the Cy-Fair offensive attack and returned the ball to Cy-Fair territory and scored to end the game.
Congratulations to McNeil and all the local teams for representing the Central District so well in the Aggieland Classic in both field play and sportsmanship.
